Island News is published by Island Press, a division of Hearst Magazines, Inc. The first issue appeared on November. 24, 1931. The title was changed to the Stroller’s Weekly. It was later renamed the Island News Professional and Douglas Island News. H. B. Selby & E. S. Stevens edited the issue. Island News Professional brought to Alaska several new writers who wrote articles dealing with business in the islands and the surroundings. It also included travel and news articles and a mining report and an article about Kenai Fjords National Park and an island weather report. A calendar of cultural events as well as a wildlife and mining report were also included. A local obituary was an important feature. The obituaries were listed alphabetically under each city in this issue. This made it easier for readers to locate the correct information faster. Know more about Island News Kauai now.
Island News Professional was primarily an annual, but it also had some business-oriented pages. These were divided into two sections that included the Commercial Business section that focused on the owners of businesses and their businesses and the Employment and Training section, that was designed to inform readers of local job openings. The business section was created to offer advertisements as well as details of job openings. The employment section included an ad in the classified section for every kind of job available, including fishing, construction, general contracting, landscaping, cleaning or any other trade. There are also listings of employers looking for workers, as well as a directory that lists the phone numbers and names of businesses.
Island News Digest published the Kenai Peninsula News, a publication which featured local content. It was mostly focused on the Kenai Peninsula and reported on everything from travel and tourism to arts and culture. It featured information on education, family activities and culture, as well as local government.

There was plenty of news on the Peninsula and the Kenai Peninsula. Many people were happy to have a reliable, objective source of business news. Many business owners and the public generally appreciated the insightful reports that the Peninsula News gave them.
